The Brief

In late 2023, we were approached by the owner of a local cafe and asked to design them a custom website. They are well known in their community for their concept of a natural, back-to-roots experience, and it is important that they have that accurately reflected online. Since this was their first website, they didn't have much in terms of branding. After a few pleasant conversations, we settled on an online identity they were happy with.

The Design

Grounded cafe was born from the idea of nature providing everything we need, and through quality coffee and artisanal food, we give thanks. This was used during the branding process, as the inspiration behind the colour scheme came from natural colours that complimented each other. Green, brown, orange and beige that contrast nicely and allow for standout features to be noticed, such as the book a table call-to-action.

For typography, we went with a font pairing of DM Serif Display and Helvetica Nue. It's always fun playing with Serif and San Serif fonts, as they naturally work well with each other, presenting a healthy blend of premium yet playful branding.

During our first consultation, we asked the cafe what are their essentials. They said that they were often messaged on social media asking to see a menu, so it was important to them for their menus to be easily available on their website.

Following that, they wanted a space to showcase some of their events that they hold throughout the year and a gallery of images linked to their social media. All of this was simple to develop, providing each of them with their own prominent section.

Once the Figma design was complete, they were thrilled with the draft and only had a few notes to improve.

Disclaimer: What we showcase here is just the initial homepage, designed on Figma, as the client has since asked for a pause in development for personal reasons but gave permission to share, removing all mention of their brand for the time being. The name, logo and content have been altered, as per their request, but the design remains the same.
